From Waterways to Wealth: Benue ACReSAL Advances Climate-Smart Agriculture in Katsina-Ala and Kwande LGAs

The Benue ACReSAL Project has distributed climate-smart farm implements to farmers in Akata and Kendev communities of Katsina-Ala and Kwande LGAs, respectively, to strengthen dry-season farming and build climate resilience.

Akata, renowned for its past vibrant fishing festivals at the famous Akata Lake, had earlier benefited from ACReSAL’s riparian restoration along the River Katsina-Ala. Speaking on behalf of his people, the Traditional Ruler, Chief Akiga Anhwange, expressed profound appreciation for the intervention, noting that the implements will enhance ongoing dry-season farming activities sustained by the lake and River Katsina Ala.

Similarly, beneficiaries from the Kendev community along the Amile River in Kwande LGA welcomed the support as a timely boost to all-year-round farming. HRH Engr. Timothy Tavershima Ahile, Ter Kwande, commended the Project, emphasizing its role in expanding economic opportunities and encouraging broader community participation in dry-season agriculture.

Representing the State Project Coordinator, Bldr. Victor Ama, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Engr. Samson Naakaa reiterated that ACReSAL is designed to help vulnerable communities adapt to climate change while promoting sustainable agricultural production, particularly in hinterland areas.

Accompanying the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer were the Social Livelihood Officer, Anna Okoh, the Drought and Desertification Officer, Engr. Emmanuel Olofo, the Natural Resources Officer, Hilakaan Hiiorga Peter, the Digital Communication and Media Assistant, Usaka Iortyom, and the staff of Good Health Living Environmental Foundation, Benue ACReSAL’s FONGO in Zone A, led by the Team Lead Victor Asobo.

The intervention reflects ACReSAL’s commitment to transforming natural resources into sustainable livelihoods across Benue State.
