Strengthening Climate-Resilient Urban Development Through Strategic Partnership

The leadership of the Benue State Urban Development Board paid a courtesy visit to the State Project Coordinator (SPC) of Benue ACReSAL, Bldr. Victor Ama, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainable and climate-resilient development in Benue State.

Leading the delegation, the General Manager, Tpl. Ternongo Mede commended the ACReSAL Project for its impactful interventions in land restoration, erosion control, flood mitigation, and climate adaptation across the state. He particularly appreciated the borehole facility provided at the Board’s office, noting its positive impact on staff welfare and productivity.

Tpl. Mede explained that the visit aimed to strengthen institutional collaboration, align spatial planning with climate resilience initiatives, and develop preventive strategies against land degradation. He emphasized that closer cooperation would enhance climate-sensitive land use planning, improve development control coordination, and support the integration of green infrastructure, urban furniture, and public sensitization programmes into the state’s planning framework.

In his response, the SPC affirmed that the Board’s mandates align with ACReSAL’s development objectives and reiterated the project’s openness to strategic partnerships in addressing climate change challenges. He highlighted key achievements, including the desilting of major drainages in Makurdi, tree planting and sensitization campaigns, approved designs for erosion control sites, and the forthcoming Achusa Flood and Erosion Control Works. He also referenced the establishment of the Benue State Agro-Climatic and Watershed Management Agency as a major milestone in strengthening environmental governance.

The MD of the Benue State Urban Development Board was accompanied by Tpl. Terlumun Shagbaor Orhembetyoga, Doom Ugoh, Tatyough Thaddeus, Tpl. Danladi Ataki Jubril, Tpl Juku Terhemen, Uttah Tivlumun, and Mrs Aladi Akelikwunu.

The visit underscores a unified commitment to coordinated action and sustainable urban development in Benue State.
