Benue ACReSAL Participates in Ongoing Stakeholders’ Engagement on Strategic Catchment Management Plans for Okwa-Mada

The Benue State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project team is actively participating in the ongoing Stakeholders’ Engagement for the development of Strategic Catchment Management Plans (SCMPs), now in its third day, focusing on the Okwa-Mada Catchment in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Okwa-Mada catchment is a vital ecological zone in Nigeria, spanning Kogi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau States. In Benue State, the priority intervention areas include Agatu, Apa, Otukpo, Gwer West, Ohimini, Guma, Makurdi, and Gwer East Local Government Areas.

Supported by the World Bank through the ACReSAL project, the engagement seeks to develop a comprehensive and inclusive management plan aimed at tackling environmental degradation, promoting sustainable land and water use, and improving the socio-economic well-being of communities across the catchment.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from the academia, government agencies, technical experts, and community representatives who are deliberating on critical issues shaping the future of the Okwa-Mada catchment.

The participation of the Benue ACReSAL team in this ongoing engagement reflects the project’s commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, and sustainability. The contributions gathered from stakeholders will be fed directly into the formulation of a Strategic Catchment Management Plan that is not only technically sound but also community-driven and responsive to the needs of the people.
