Benue ACReSAL Project Brings Hope to Achusa Community with Climate Resilience Initiatives

The Benue State Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project today carried out sensitization visit to the Achusa and surrounding communities in Makurdi to raise awareness about the project’s objectives and its impact on communities.

Led by the State Project Coordinator (SPC) Bldr. Victor Ama, the ACReSAL State Project Management Unit team engaged with community members to discuss pressing issue of climate change and the detrimental effects of improper landscape management.

The SPC emphasized the devastating impact these factors have had on communities across the Northern Nigeria, highlighting the crucial role of the ACReSAL project in mitigating these effects. Addressing the perennial flooding that plagues Achusa and surrounding communities annually, the SPC attributed the issue to climate change and unsustainable land management practices.

He urged the community to embrace the ACReSAL project, emphasizing its commitment to improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable landscape management practices that will ensure a healthier environment for future generations.

Bldr. Ama also highlighted the success of the ACReSAL Community Revolving Fund (CRF) loan scheme, noting that some community members have already benefited and assured the communities that the project aims to expand the scheme to enable more Community Interest Groups (CIGs) to access these vital resources.

Responding on behalf of the community members, the district head of Adeke, Chief Simon Akpe and Mrs. Esther Anande expressed their gratitude to the ACReSAL project for its interventions in key areas such as the provision of solar-powered boreholes, CRF loans, and solar-powered streetlights, acknowledging the positive impact of these initiatives and called for sustained efforts in addressing other community needs.

The traditional rulers further attested to the significant improvements of livelihoods ACReSAL interventions have brought to their communities.
